Pre-Production
Design and Development
- Conceptualization: Design team creates initial sketches and ideas.
- Pattern Making: Develop patterns based on the designs. Patterns can be made manually or using CAD software.
- Sample Making: Create prototypes or samples to test design, fit, and fabric behavior.
- Fit Testing: Conduct fitting sessions and make necessary adjustments.
Sourcing and Procurement
- Fabric Sourcing: Select and order fabric based on design requirements.
- Trims and Accessories: Source buttons, zippers, threads, and other accessories.
- Supplier Negotiation: Finalize agreements with suppliers for materials.
Production Planning
- Tech Packs: Prepare technical packs (tech packs) that include all garment specifications, measurements, fabric details, and construction guidelines.
- Costing: Calculate production costs, including materials, labor, overheads, and logistics.
- Scheduling: Develop a production schedule to meet delivery deadlines.
Fabric Inspection and Cutting
- Fabric Inspection: Check fabric for defects and ensure it meets quality standards.
- Spreading: Lay out the fabric in layers on a cutting table.
- Cutting: Use cutting machines or manually cut the fabric according to patterns. This can be done using automated machines, laser cutting, or manual methods.
- Sorting and Numbering: Sort and number cut pieces to keep track of the garment components.
Sewing and Assembly
- Sewing: Stitch the cut pieces together following the tech pack instructions. This includes joining parts like sleeves, collars, and pockets.
- Assembly: Assemble the garment by attaching various components.
- Specialized Stitching: Apply any specialized stitching or embroidery as required by the design.
Quality Control
- In-Line Inspection: Inspect garments during the sewing process to catch defects early.
- End-Line Inspection: Perform final quality checks on completed garments to ensure they meet specifications and quality standards.
- Defect Rectification: Identify and fix any defects found during inspections.
Finishing
- Trimming: Remove loose threads and excess fabric.
- Pressing/Ironing: Press garments to remove wrinkles and give them a polished look.
- Labeling: Attach care labels, brand labels, and size tags.
- Packaging: Fold and pack garments according to customer or company standards. This may include adding packaging materials like tissue paper, poly bags, or boxes.
Storage and Distribution
- Warehousing: Store finished garments in a warehouse if needed before shipping.
- Logistics: Arrange for the transportation of garments to retailers, distributors, or directly to customers.
- Inventory Management: Keep track of stock levels and manage inventory.
Post-Production
- Feedback Collection: Gather feedback from customers to improve future products.
- Analysis: Analyze production efficiency, quality issues, and market trends to make informed decisions for future production runs.
